Spanning from 10,000 BCE to 1450 CE, students explore the foundations of civilization and the development of political, social, economic, and cultural systems across major regions. The course emphasizes critical analysis, historical reasoning, and the ability to draw connections across time and place. 

• Examine the foundations of civilization through case studies in Mesopotamia and Persia 
• Analyze the political, cultural, and philosophical contributions of Greece and Rome 
• Study the rise of Christianity and its influence on early and medieval Europe, including the Viking Age and the Crusades 
• Analyze historical continuity and change through primary and secondary sources, with attention to perspective, language, and context 
• Develop historical skills through active note-taking, argumentative writing, research, and thematic analysis across units
