This course introduces students to the history and geography of Washington State, emphasizing the development of the region over time and the interplay of social, political, economic, and cultural forces. Students learn to think critically about historical events, analyze multiple perspectives, and understand how the past shapes contemporary society. 

• Examine Washington State’s physical geography and its influence on settlement, economic development, and governance 
• Analyze Washington’s historical development from pre-statehood through the Cold War, including Indigenous history, treaties, immigration, and major political and economic events 
• Explain how diverse cultures and ethnic groups have contributed to Washington State history since statehood 
• Develop historical thinking skills through primary and secondary source analysis, argumentative writing, and analysis of cause and effect
